"The awesome 2006 Homage Syrah has a truly wonderful, exuberant nose with pure blackberry, white pepper, a touch of leather and briar. Superb definition. The palate is medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, feminine, touches of white pepper, hedgerow and briery. As much finesse as a Romanee-Saint-Vivant with its silky smooth finish. Brilliant. Trinity Hill is one of Hawkes Bay's outstanding producers and one of the country's finest proponents of Syrah. With two 20-hectare holdings in the Gimblett Gravels, chief winemaker and "bluesman" John Hancock along with Warren Gibson and Michael Bell are fashioning dense, powerful yet supremely well-balanced wines that rank amongst the best wines New Zealand produces and come highly recommended." Rated 95/100 (Outstanding).

"This is mind-bogglingly good: seamless with a dense finish, and flavours of leather, black jellybeans and florals. World class.  Rating 97."
Ken Gargett, QWeekend, February 23-24, 2008.

"Great depth of fruit and spice is revealed on the nose (the 4% viognier being seamlessly integrated). The long, lingering palate displays finesse, power and grace with its new oak showing but with the fruit intensity to match. A persistent dry, savoury finish rounds out a very special wine."
Winewise, April 2008.

"The Big Kahuna, every way you look at it. John Hancock's superstar Syrah fills a large canvas with panache, power and varietal purity. One of the 'most lush, balanced and softest mouthfuls' in the line-up, said Ralph Kyte-Powell. A rich, silkily textured treat."
Cuisine NZ Syrah Tasting, July 2008.

"Judged top wine at the 2007 Air New Zealand Wine Awards, this wine was described by the competition chairman as 'an iron fist in a velvet glove'. Made from a mix of mass-selected New Zealand syrah clones plus a small percentage of Rhone clones, and co-fermented with just 4% viognier, this just might be New Zealand's most intense example of syrah/viognier. It's a huge wine with a silken texture and masses of ripe plum and dark berry fruit flavours that are more than a match for the wine's solidly oaky overcoat."
Gourmet Traveller Wine NZSyrah Tasting, June / July 2008.

"Firmly structured style with a wealth of dark sweet fruit. Deeply coloured and fragrant. Mouthfilling, long and highly concentrated, with a strong seasoning of new oak amd notably ripe blackcurrant and spice flavours. Should be very long-lived."
