87/100, Neal Martin for RobertParker.com, May 2008.
"Wild raspberry and plum fruit aromas with spice characterize the wine, with a little vanillin from oak barrels. This is an elegant wine, with firm but not heavy tannin structure. The texture is silky, but with substance, almost like a combination of pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon. There is great persistence of the wild fruit flavours on the finish. The wine will age well for five years or so and can be drunk with any red meat or pork dishes.
Food Match The grape is Spanish so that's where we should look for our inspiration. Paella that puts more emphasis on Chorizo sausage than seafood would work, but the best match would be lamb marinated in sweet paprila, chopped rosemary and garlic before being roasted pink."
Vic Williams, Menu Matching, Hospitality magazine, September 2007
"The 2006 Tempranillo has a ripe Tuscan-like nose with raisin, plum and just a faint touch of eau-de-vie. The palate is moderately balanced, quite feminine and lithe, good acidity with a smooth plum-flavoured finish. Trinity Hill is one of Hawkes Bay's outstanding producers and one of the country's finest proponents of Syrah. With two 20-hectare holdings in the Gimblett Gravels, chief winemaker and "bluesman" John Hancock along with Warren Gibson and Michael Bell are fashioning dense, powerful yet supremely well-balanced wines that rank amongst the best wines New Zealand produces and come highly recommended." Rated 87/100 (Above Average). Neal Martin for RobertParker.com, May 2008.
