“Summer in a Bottle” best describes this zingy, luscious Sauvignon Blanc. Typical crisp flavours are mellowed by the tropical notes of passionfruit and melons, characteristic of Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc.
THE VARIETY Sauvignon Blanc 94%, Semillon 6%
VINEYARD LOCATION Various vineyards throughout Hawkes Bay: Mangatahi, Bayview, Clive, Porangahau & Gimblett Road. The five vineyards are in distinctively different parts of Hawkes Bay, with different soil types and climatic conditions.
VINTAGE CONDITIONS 2007 was an outstanding season for Sauvignon Blanc in Hawkes Bay. A steady summer was followed by a great autumn, dry and warm. Careful vineyard management and attention to detail allowed us to harvest the grapes when the flavour profiles were at their optimum level, yet still retaining good acidity.
WINEMAKING The grapes were harvested over an extended period to increase complexity, maximize and diversify flavours. They were rapidly and gently pressed to produce an elegant, fruit-driven wine with low phenolics. The juice was cold settled to clarify it and then cool fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain the fruit character. The wine was bottled in June 2007.
THE COLOUR Light straw with a green tint.
THE BOUQUET Gooseberries, citrus, passionfruit, nectarine
THE PALATE Fresh and zingy with a fresh fruitiness. A mineral character lends a distinctly Sancerre-like style to the wine. The fresh acid is balanced by a tiny amount of retained sweetness. A modest alcohol level is a big plus for this style of wine.
PEAK DRINKING 2007- 2010
FOOD MATCHES Serve lightly chilled with shellfish and seafood, Asian foods, new season’s asparagus and goat’s cheese. |
