2008 HAWKES BAY
PINOT GRIS

THE VARIETY
96% Pinot Gris; 4% Viognier

VINEYARD LOCATION
3 different vineyards: Winery block in Gimblett Gravels: 46%, Mangaorapa Station (Southern Hawkes Bay) 17% and Blackbridge (Haumoana, Hawkes Bay) 37%.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
2008 was an exceptional season in Hawkes Bay. A very warm, low-rainfall summer was followed by a mild autumn. The grapes were picked at good maturity levels and clean condition from the 3 vineyards, maximizing and diversifying aromas and flavours.

WINEMAKING
The grapes were rapidly and gently whole bunch pressed to produce a rich, fruit-driven wine with low phenolics. The juice was briefly cold settled to clarify it and then fermented in stainless steel tanks  with 3 months aging on yeast lees to add complexity and texture. The wine was bottled in June 2008.

THE COLOUR
Light straw with a hint of green

THE BOUQUET
Nashi pear and spice

THE PALATE
The standout feature is the texture of the wine: the opulent mouth-feel makes this wine luscious and popular. The rich texture and fullness, even though the wine is essentially dry, are the result of ripe grapes. The wine has great balance with finesse and purity of fruit.

PEAK DRINKING
2008 - 2011
